Sunshine, Songs & Smiles: Celebrating VE Day Together
To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the Has2Bhappy community came together in true celebratory style for a joyful and memorable VE Day party—and what a day it was!
Held outdoors under glorious sunshine, our service users, staff, and families gathered for a vibrant afternoon of music, food, fun, and reflection. It was a beautiful reminder of the power of togetherness, honouring the past while enjoying the present.
A Feast of Contributions
In the true spirit of unity, each supported living house prepared a dish to add to the fantastic buffet. From classic British favourites to delicious homemade bakes, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The spread was not just tasty—it was a symbol of collaboration and care, with each house proudly presenting their contribution.
Music Through the Decades
Setting the tone for the day, staff brought in a vintage record player and vinyl records, playing everything from wartime classics to '50s and '60s favourites. As Vera Lynn’s "We’ll Meet Again" filled the air, it brought a few misty eyes and thoughtful moments.
But it wasn’t long before the tempo changed. Our service users were quick to request some of their favourite pop hits, and soon the party turned into a dance-along celebration of the music they love. From retro beats to modern chart-toppers, everyone found something to groove to.
Fun, Games & Family
One of the many highlights of the day was the hilarious game of "Pin the Cigar on Churchill"—a creative twist that had everyone laughing. Whether playing, watching, or cheering from the sidelines, the joy was contagious.
Even more special was the presence of service users’ families, who joined us in the celebration. The laughter of children, the smiles of parents, and the shared stories added an extra layer of warmth and connection to the day.
A Day to Remember
As the sun shone brightly overhead and music filled the garden, it was clear that this was more than just a party—it was a moment of community and happiness, filled with genuine connection and lasting memories.
